Something different for some !

Week Commencing 20th July 2020

The Monday gang saw Vic and Ian continuing with the Pea gravel filling on the drive .

Peter Q, Brian and Dave were asked if they could make a gate in the fence , so they didn't have to climb over the said fence and with the mowers to get access to the area behind platform 1.

Something different, for the lads to do.

First select where gate is going to go , and insert uprights

Add hinges, a diagonal and cut away from existing fence.

Make sure gate opens and clears bank , apply coat of preservative and bolt.

And voila , one gate in the fence.

The rest of the day was spent behind platform 2 , following on from Pat .

Peter and Brian on the Rakes with Dave on the wheelbarrow.

Wednesday gang

To the Track bed !

With the imminent start of some services into Broadway Station the track bed through the station needed a clear out of Cones and needles etc.

Clive and Keith ,with Tony and Peter K nearby raked and bagged the debris , whilst Dave on the barrow took everything down to the bonfire

In the foreground  " Nobby no mates  ? "   Peter Q had started from the opposite end .

But later everyone was working together again.

Pat had been working on behind platform 2 again , so after the track bed was cleared we all headed to the bank.

Something else different was the creation  of an A frame board by Peter Q , we will tell you what its for later.

Peter shown applying a coat of primer / undercoat next week it will go black and lettering added.

  2. When making a wooden gate, or ledge and brace door, the diagonal or brace is always constructed from the top of the open side to the bottom of the hinged side. The GWR drawings for similar metal gates follow this pattern. This gives the gate or door the maximum strength.

  3. I have just discovered another camera angle which shows the scene towards the station from further down platform 2 (North end). To do this, click on the link to view the current view of the station, which brings up the image, then change the number at the end of the link from "2" to "1", so it then shows: https://www.ipcamlive.com/broadway1. I hope that I have explained that well!
