Five volunteers in today with more clearing up to do. First it was a drizzle, followed by a heavy shower
forcing everyone to take shelter except Tony who carried on regardless.

Jo, Keith and Clive were all along the Driveway. Not so many cones to collect but still removing weeds.

Vic your camera man checked the flower beds. Giving new plants a watering with a can.

Battling Vegetation and the Sun

Monday 22nd and Wednesday 24th June

Due to the on going conditions for volunteering , a different set of volunteers attended on Monday than did last Wednesday .
This time Dave , Peter Q and Brian joined HOD Tony , Vic and Pat , the mission as per ever is to make the station surrounds more presentable.
Last Wednesday saw the start of the drive way vegetation clearance, first job of the day was to give it a rake and mow.

After we all moved up to what we call the paddock.

Marvelous what 6 grown men can do in about an hour.

Next it was a bit of a challenge , the platform 1 embankment.

This shot , sort of shows the kind of height of the vegetation  that was all along behind the platform .

With luck we have a man who can  !

Pat makes it look easy with the strimmer , but its not especially as the day was warming up.

After working his way down the platform all that was left was to rack it down and sweep up , all debris headed for the smoldering fire in the distance

Peter having a rake.

 The after shot.

Left for another day when we can get the mower on it.

There was time to start the other end of Platform .

Again we followed what Pat had strimmed .

Pat having a well deserved rests while Brian and Peter clean up and Dave somewhere on the Wheelbarrow.

Caption time.

Please write a caption not using the following words .

Navy , Sea , Signals , Ships or Weatherspoons.

Sorry there are no photos for Wednesday as no Bloggers were around , looking at the cameras it looked like it was a very hot day by the way some were walking later !!

We are Back

Wednesday 17th June

In preparation for the railway reopening a team of six Broadway Volunteers came on the first day.
Whilst we have been away it's been "Green Grow the Rushes O", a damaged drain cover and a waist
bin storage area built.

Drain Cover.

The cover driven over by a lorry turning around needed a replacement.

A temporary cover was replaced by taking one from the far end of the station and new one ordered, the open hole had a protective barrier place around it.

Waist Bin Area

This is now at the far end of the station staff car park.

The Five Man Team

The team consisting of Tony, Pat, Clive, Keith and Peter K.

First it was clearing the Drive collecting Pine Needles and Cones.

Next came the clearing of the grass area on the Broadway Village side of the drive. The next set of photos show how much the grass and weeds have grown it spite of the long dry spell and the clearing gang working.

Vic was busy at the North end of  Platform 1 garden clearing and planting new plants.

Next Monday another team will set to clearing another area.

That's all for now folks..
