Still Brrr !!

Wednesday 30th January

Another cold start to the day and with temperatures around freezing , jobs in the warm were hard to come by.

The previous day Neal and his team had done a marvelous job in erecting the landing and stringers for the bridge stairs.

I was wondering how many people had watched them live on the web cam , work in the pouring rain, first do platform 1 and then using the class 73 to move the Warflat over, so Platform 2 could be done.

Dave had a nice warm job first thing , his task was to put the New clock up in the Cafe above the Fireplace.

After a bit of fiddling with the pendulum away it went , hope somebody now remembers to wind it up , no batteries are included.

Second small job was putting a small notice in between the hatches in the Booking Hall.

Braving the outside Peter and Brian were constructing the roof for the external stores cupboard

Brian in the first picture is making sure the piece of wood that Peter is cutting doesn't escape , whilst Peter in the second picture  , do not ask !! probably having a funny five !!

Elsewhere Bob and Tony were tiling in the Kitchen , Pat was working on the broken fence and the drive way Lads were leveling out .

And for those that are following the rodent story , Still no success !

Maintenance

There were three volunteers in today refurbishing the Running In Board.

Dave and Vic checked out the frame for fitting on the posts and marking out the bolt hols for eventual drilling.

We next removed the board from the ladies toilets where it had been left to let the adhesive to dry out.

Brian arrived and helped Dave in the Woodwork Shop. Vic started painting the Broadway metal letters putting two coats of paint on each side.

Delivery by Rail

Yesterday we had a delivery at Broadway of the metal framework for the footbridge staircase.

The first piece installed.

Car Park and Driveway

The contractors had been busy.

Jo's Artifacts

Jo brought in a clock for the Tearoom and two Southern Railway maps.

The Morning Shift. (Vic)

There were seven volunteers in today with the cold weather there was not a lot of outdoor activity.
Three were in the woodwork shop, two in the kitchen and one on fence repair.

Vic was up on the Broadway side of the embankment, where a panel of Palisade fencing had been damaged by a falling tree.

In the kitchen Bob continued with fixing tiles to the wall, with help from Tony who was cutting the tiles to shape.

Along side the kitchen entrance the woodwork team of Peter Q, Brian and Dave were continuing with the installation of a storage cupboard.

Progress had been made with the top of the driveway. The contractors were laying ballast over the whole area, providing a very firm surface. Also the steps up to the cottages had been repaired and was safe to walk on.

Railway Scenes at Broadway.

The Afternoon Shift ( Dave)

Pete and Brian having finished the back of the storage cupboard then took it up to Station Building for fitting . In the background Paul dropped in to " Borrow " some equipment, it was going to be used for slab cutting at Toddington Station. Hope they were not in a rush as you can see by looking in his right hand !!

After fitting Pete started the first of the side panels.

Whilst Dave and Brian carried on with the construction of the new running in board.

As you can see above the only warm place to glue the panels together was the Ladies toilets !

A further picture of Tiled area in the Kitchen and outside what the car park was looking like.

Meanwhile the hunt is still on for our little friend !
Having put down several traps and wasted Chocolate in them ! nothing had been caught . All traps were empty and still set except for the old fashion trap , the poison had been taken from the bowls too. everything has been refilled and reset , maybe next time .

Catch the little B....R !

Wednesday 16th January

There were 10 of us today on and around the Station today and one or two who should not have been there.but more of that later.

The most technical job of the day was done by Bob , with a little help from Mike ? was the commencement of the tiling of the Kitchen above the work tops.

There was a  lot of cutting to be done around the sockets made for a slow and steady job, but at the end of the day two opposite walls were complete. Just needs a bit of Grouting to round them off.

It will soon be time to say farewell, to what used to be our cement hut ! Later this week its due to start a new life down at Hayles Abbey Halt as their storage hut. Pat and Vic had the task of emptying and relocating of what was once stored in there.

Vic caught in the act of hiding stuff in no 1 container !

Elsewhere Pete and Brian carried on with the construction of the storage cupboard .

Whilst Dave gave the running in board and other parts more coats of paint.

To the south Line side Clearance were at it again , you can always spot them by the billowing smoke.

Out the front the car park was coming along , new drainage had been laid out , and the old top coat had removed.

To the story in the title .

This morning Julie came to open the shop to sort the every grateful piles of donations , when she found evidence of a visit from one or two little rodents . Mice being what they do best  like to nibble . luckily mostly it was the odd stuff on the floor. and not the books on the shelves. Holes were blocked all around the hut by Dave and Brian, and at least 4 rodents traps were put out to catch it or them . Watch this space.

A New Year

9th January 2019

FOBS Working Teams

It was all go at Broadway Station today.

The Woodwork Team and The Café.

Peter, David H and Brian were in the Woodwork Shop. Another rubbish/recycle bin was moved out of the Woodwork Shop. A replacement Running in Board can be seen in the photo. A start was made on the outdoor cupboard for the Café.

In the Café Kitchen, Tony and Bob were sorting out some of the fixtures prior to tiling on the wall.
Tables and chairs have arrived for the Café.

Ground Work

Pat and Vic were busy raking up more pine needles - a never ending task! At the top of the drive our contractors were fitting the drainage system prior to the driveway being tarmac coated.

FOBS Shop

John B, Julie and Steve were in the shop today, sorting out old stock and finding an intruder. Poor Teddy had been attacked by a four legged fiend. How do they find their way in? Mice!!

Another Ground Work Team

The Trackside Clearance Team turned up today to commence the clearing of the embankment between Childswickham Bridge and Broadway Bridge, starting at the Station end.

Alternative Transport

Most of our teams arrived by car, but we did have an alternative. It was ballast time at Toddington! The arrival of a diesel loco signified the departure of the ballast wagons.

Other Visitors

The Health and Safety Team had a meeting to risk assess the arrival of the footbridge metalwork for the first set of steps arriving next week.
The Fire Alarm Service Engineer also inspected the alarm system and confirmed all was well.
A couple from the Caravan Club and one person from Broadway Village also popped in to view the Station and give congratulations on the Station's appearance.
