What a Miserable Day

 Wednesday 16th March 2022

Well it started as well as day in March could , a bit of a dry cool start but come late morning the heavens opened up and was still going strong when the last of the volunteers decided that they had had enough and gave it up as a bad job.

But before the rain appeared .

Vic was behind platform 1 removing rubbish that had blown down of the nearby trees.

Ron was on the driveway clearing more rubbish away.

The two Peters were on the opposite side of the road placing paving slabs in the bank to make life easier when tending to the planted shrubs.

Vic and Chris were giving the Car Park garden another tidy up.

Tony was on the mower , giving the Driveway grass its first cut of the year.

Brian who help Michael last week on the painting of the Platform white line on the top of the edging slabs , this week started painting the face , but soon the rain started and water based paint and rain don't really mix , so that put a halt to his little job.

Dave had finished a new A board for the shop awhile ago , it just needed to be sign written , but our expert sign writer was busy , so the old laminated Good shed list went up .

There were only 4 left at lunch time , soon to become 2 that left Dave and Ian keeping out of the rain tiding up inside of container 2.

Then they had enough .

What a miserable day.

That Time of Year again

 Wednesday 9th March 2022

Reasonable day weather wise for our attending volunteers , main task as always at this time of year is the putting of the Platform furniture from under the canopy to its usual spots . Its the same every year where does it all go ?
We should really make a plan up where everything belongs .

Ray seen here placing the first of the litter bins in the sitting area.
Sorry you will have to imagine the wooden bench`s  and seats being put out but its roughly the same as last year !

Bit of a brush up was needed at the south end of platform 1.The wind had blown down more than the usual amount of Needles and cones.

A small gang of Terry, Paul, Keith and Bob had a back braking job of wood treating the Ballast boards on 3 of the over bridges.

First was bridge one , by the station , the second bridge was Bridge 2 over the Childswickham road, way past the signals that you can see in the back ground. and later they managed to get to bridge 5 about 1.5 miles towards Toddington.

A more local painting job was done by Mike and Brian.

With a new can of white masonry paint , roller and brushes they started the job of repainting the white line at the platform edge.

Just in front of them was Peter K scrubbing the dirt off the edge.

A happy Chris had been cleaning the piles of needles from the front of the station building , he must be the only person using buckets as everyone else will use a wheel barrow !

Over on platform 2 , Neal had just finished fixing the last board on to the Bridge stairs platform side.

Looking good for first weekend of the new season which as you all know starts this Saturday .

I have done a video that shows the Canopy Extensions being erected , it was created using the web cam shots taken daily and stitched together with a short  explanation of what's occurring.

You should turn the music down as it gets on my nerves after a time .

Canopy Extension Revealed

 Wednesday 2nd March 2022

What was on the minds of the volunteers that arrived at Broadway on Wednesday was the Canopy and how it looked after the months under wraps .

Those on the 2 Facebook sites dedicated to the GWSR and Broadway Station would have seen my photos  I took on Monday after the scaffolding had been removed. but apologies to those who saw them but to those who didn't.

The canopy from the car park side.

Two shots from Platform 2

Lots of praise from the volunteers , but while we were waiting ( hanging around ) there was something special happening , the electricians had finished doing the connection to the existing platform lamps and !!

A sight to behold , the lantern , station lights and platform lights all lite up and working. Makes you want to say role on Autumn when the nights draw in .

It was a miserable day weather wise , what to do without getting too wet.

Ray and Dave moved the table from the Broadway Goods Shed to the dry number 3 container to give it a rub down and then  re varnish the top.

Vic below was cleaning the windows inside and out.

Peter K was giving the Platform 2 edge a clean and brush up.

Mike was giving the lamps a clean up.

Elsewhere Neal had installed a new notice board by the entrance to the Booking hall

By mid afternoon the rain had increased and the volunteers drifted away , next week its the big push to get everything ready for the first trains on following Saturday.

I will leave you with a picture of the lantern which is,  I think the icing on the cake to the Canopy Extension. Well done Neal , John and Jo , and everyone else involved.
