Just a Little, Not a Lot!

Wednesday 24th April

There were a few Broadway Maintenance Volunteers in today to carry out a few tasks.
With a Purple Time Table and two steam trains running it was very gratifying to have a good number of passengers for the first train to Cheltenham..

Grass Seed

Although the forecast was for showers, Ron and Tony used the hosepipe to spray water everywhere. First the Picnic Area then along Platform 2

The Bridge

This of course is the Footbridge. The paving slabs getting an infill and dagger boards being attached.
Clive, Keith, Tony and Ron all being involved at ground level. Neal, David and Brian being at the top.

Rain which had been forecast eventually came and washed the players away.

Mike who was on his own-some was busy preparing more corrugated roof panels for the footbridge.

Wheel Chairs

To help our travellers we do our best to for getting them on board our carriages.

Notice Board

Brian, David and Peter were busy in the woodwork shop.

That's all for today folks. See you next week after "Wartime in the Cotswolds."
Mind those unexploded bombs.

Is This a Dagger ( Board ) is see before me , Part 2

Wednesday 17th April 2019

Must be nearly Summer, today  the volunteer numbers  went into double figures, compared to Monday when it reached 5. Not that anybody could see each other.

Pat was strimming in the distance, Mike was on the Station ceiling Knotting the new wood work for the stairs, Dave was finishing off the first picture frame for the Poster next to Cabin 2 , and Brian turned up in the afternoon to give the new Broadway Station sign another coat of paint.

As I said Wednesday was a much better day Volunteer wise. And so was the weather !

The slabbing gang were back , Today laying the slabs which lay outside of the eventual fence .

As usual Paul and John were in charge of cutting the slabs.Behind them in the distance an orange spot shows how far Pat has gone, he was so far away he failed to hear or see the first train of the day !

Terry sent me the end of day shot , with just one more cut needed , that will keep till next Wednesday

Down at the Carpentry cabin , Dave had finished and given the first picture frame to  Pete for a bit of filling and a coat of paint.

Wood has been stored in the Cabin to keep dry and on then primer applied some has had a first coat of undercoat.
A makeshift rack construction allows them to dry.

This wood has been lined up for one thing , to be made into Dagger Boards for the stairs .

Before lunch Neal had worked out the various angles that were needed to start and a template was made.

Peter holds up the Dagger board template, which is top of the car park side number 1 , he is actually holding it flat to the camera so you can see the various angles that were needed to be cut.

Okay 1 became 5 and so off to the stairs for a trial fit.

They fitted well and lined up with the existing wood work , Holes will then need to be drilled to match the existing, plus the slots from the bottom up to the holes. 22 boards to get to the landing and then another challenge but that is for another day.

A nice sunny day at Broadway and today's Locomotives were looking at their best.

" 2807 " and  " Dinmore Manor " both running around their trains.

And later in the day 47376.

10th April 2019

Wednesday was a Purple Timetable for the railway. Two steam trains for our passengers delight and a different combination later. Dinmore Manor arriving and leaving, then a top and tail combination with Foremark Hall and a Class 37 Diesel in the afternoon.

There were several things happening on and around the footbridge. Ron and David finishing the grading of the footpath, Neal playing Snakes and Ladders! more with ladders. Mike and Chris preparing the roof panels.

Grass seed was spread in the Picnic Area and along Platform 2, this was carried out by Tony, Ron and David.

The Woodwork Team were also busy in there workshop Peter, Brian and Dave repairing the Broadway Station board.

The Friends of Broadway Shop was open and had quite a few visitors, purchasing goods and delivering some items for sale. More Required!!

Some new publicity boards have also arrived at the station and adorn the walls.

In Broadway Café the Chiller Cabinet has been encased with wood panels, made by our C & W Dept and a delivery of Ice-cream is on display ready for the warm weather.

More The Same

Wednesday 3rd April

How time is flying , doesn't feel like it was 5 minutes ago that we opened for a new running season , and now we are into April with the trains now running on week days . it gives the volunteers something to watch and admire whilst we Get on with it !

Monday saw no such action , and with about 10 of us on site, groups set about the days task on a bright but cool day.

The main group are by the steps

Seen from bridge John S , Keith and Ron were checking the levels for the next batch of slabs, whilst Paul steadies himself with the shovel, well he is the chief mixer and slab cutter .

The two Mikes continued the preparation of the corrugated sheets for the stairs.

It wasn't until later in the day that we noticed that one Mike had been wearing his mask on upside down , a quiet word and he corrected his mistake , well a nose guard could be a chin guard !

Elsewhere Dave moved the live camera out of the way of the scaffolding before giving one of the GWR benches a top coat of Chocolate paint.

Also Pat was seen giving a tree stump a hard time , but unfortunately it was winning , so he went back to strimming the cutting where the machine had missed.

Wednesday saw more slabs being laid , by going home time they had nearly finished .

They were much further on than when this picture had been taken.

Terry sent  the pictures below apparently they continued to work through the rain to complete , all they left is the cuts and the pavement area outside the fence.

Pete and Brian were giving the GWR Broadway sign that lives down the drive way a refurbishment . It is now about 10 years old and the surround and letters were looking worse for wear.

Pete seen cutting new replacement letters whilst Brian gave them a sanding down prior to painting , whilst elsewhere Dave made the new surround. Ray painted the rear of one of the new GWR Benches next week it will be placed on the Platform for the use of our customers .

As mentioned before the mid week trains are running , today it was the turn of 2807 Heavy Goods Locomotive. It had just run up from Cheltenham through a Hail and Rainstorm. I am sure I heard some of the crew grumbling about the cold and damp !
