Give Us A Sign !

Wednesday 6th February

It was a pretty decent day weather wise for the time of year, about 14 volunteers turned out today to do various jobs in and around the Station.

On arrival  the first thing we saw was an addition to the stairs on platform 2 , three of the four hoops had been erected by Neal and his team on Monday !

The last hoop could be weather permitting, be put up on Friday or at a later date.

Elsewhere Peter and Dave are in the process of making the doors for the Kitchen external cupboard.

The two doors were made and later Peter gave the them their first undercoat. whilst on the right of the picture the running in board frame had a second coat of undercoat .

Outside Brian refilled the missed holes in the actual running in board and the applied a coat of primer.

Up on the bank the panel that had been bent by the falling tree was removed by Pat and Chris and then replaced .

Old panel slightly bent .
Two  new horizontals and then new uprights

A good job being carried out was the clearing of any surplus materials and a general tidy up of Platform 2 . Vic and Chris managed to dispose of many old pallets from around the signal box .Areas cleared will be racked over and reseeded in the future.

In the kitchen , Tony finished the grouting off whilst Mike removed the protection covering the units, and the plumber finished plumbing in of the dishwasher.

Outside and above the main door of the restaurant, Neal ,John and Peter have now erected the Refreshment V board.

  1. I see that you are completing BOTH sets of stairs to the footbridge. Does this mean that passengers will have access to platform 2 when the new season starts or will the top of the stairs to platform 2 be sealed off until the platform can be surfaced?
Looking very good, and the Refreshment room looks really great with the new V board up. The interior looks good as well.

    1. It will towards the end of the season or next year before the steps will be usable, then it will only be to the span of the bridge. Platform two will have to be completed before the bridge will be fully usable.

We both hope we will be able to take tea and cake in the refreshment room this season at the earliest oppotunity! Well done to all of you. The stairs will be a great boon to the photographers amongst us. Thanks for your reports and pictures.

  4. Will you be adding a picture rail to the cafe to complete the Edwardian look, as at Winchcombe.

  6. Colin,

What FANTASTIC news for everybody involved. Truly MAGNIFICANT awards for GWSR.

    I was on one of the GWSR steam trains last year and in the carriage, this young boy with his parents, was shouting out with joy;

“This is the best thing I have ever done in my life!”

Those words, from that young boy, succinctly sum up what the Gloucester and Warwickshire Steam Railway is all about.

    Mark.
