Week Commencing 24th August 2026
Monday
Four around this Monday , plus a visit from a potential newcomer !
Sun shining on platform 2 , the roof structure was slowly being bolted up, and work on the brick work at the back continued.
Chris was weeding on the car park garden.
We were asked to fit this little signs in the Gents and ladies toilets ! Some people do need telling ! Shame though .
Time to fix our warped bench top , Strip and refit always works .
Wednesday
Back up to 5
Kevin had started to trim the hedge on Monday , finished it off on the Wednesday , bonfire grows bigger !
A job that needed doing was to treat our spare lamps with Etch primer before copper tarnished. Chris had the task .
Behind him on the cutting , the brush cutting was in full swing . After my 3rd slip , that was enough of that for the day !
Young Dave and myself then took to cutting down some ash and elderflower trees on the embankment , whilst down below us Ian gave the drive a brush down.
After all that brushing , Chris eventually got to put his feet up !
The 2 Diesels on duty today were the 45 and 37.
Yes. Isn't it the way? We are in the year 2026 and people are having to be reminded to turn taps off. They had tu turn them to get the water so it follows that they have to be turned the other way to switch yhem off! You would think that's a 'no brainer', but no. It seems in this day and age people expect all things to be done for them. such is life!!

In one toilet, using the push button taps, it asks people to pull up after using it... Needless to say, even with the sign, the water was still running out, when I visited, so I stopped the water flow instead of the previous 'customer'...
DeleteRegarding the proliferation of non-period signage at Broadway, I suggest the maintenance team take a leaf out of Network Rail's / Chiltern Railways book over what they have done at Birmingham Moor Street. There where signs with moor modern lettering are required (e.g. Disabled Toilet, Baby Changing Area) they produce signage in heritage style so they complement the longer standing signs, such as Way Out, Platform 3 etc. This would look much better than just sticking up modern proprietary signage because health & safety or whoever says they are needed. Sadly I think "elf & safety" are going a bit over the top with the superb Broadway Station, but that is just my opinion. The little signs in the toilet in this post, the Baby Changing area in a previous posts are obvious examples of where modern signage would look much better in a heritage style.

HAPPY holiday snaps and films on the Gloucester and Warwickshire Steam Railway (GWSR) in England. Amateur recordings of a very special holiday.
It’s Wednesday, the 26th September 2026, with all the trains running being hauled by Diesels due to the heat wave…
The film starts recording as D6948 is commencing its Turnaround at Broadway Railway Station. Recording from the pedestrian bridge, we see the train pass underneath and go past the new Station buildings on Platform 2.

Cue the interview with one of the team, doing the rebuild and the quote is along the lines, about getting this as a ‘prefab kit’ bought down B&Q… The interview can be heard, apologies for the bumbling questioning (I was tired) and for the other noises, as this appeared to be coming from either inside the train below or other work going on… The gentleman was gracious with his time, so a BIG THANK YOU for that.

Particularly pleased with the recording of Broadway Station and the steadiness of the Camera all the way to Toddington Railway Station.
As the train heads to Toddington, the camera records the fields going by, on just one side of the train.
GWSR 11, is the last film recorded on Wednesday, the 26th September 2026. I was particularly pleased as the film finishes at the main Station on the GWSR Network, TODDINGTON Railway Station. This is where it all started for GWSR, where a small group of visionaries started the ball rolling and quite frankly, without them, what we see in these recordings and when visiting, just wouldn’t be there. BIG THANK YOU to all of them and ALL those who have carried the baton forward and onwards to where Gloucester and Warwickshire Steam Railway are today.
