Week commencing 5th July 2021
We are still a few volunteers down due to the pre school holiday season for us pensioners , but a much better turn out compared to last week.
First job on the cards for Dave and Ian was to fit the small bit of spear fencing between the gate post and the start of the slope.
Pat back of his holiday started where he left off , heavy strimming behind platform 2.
And now for something different a request for us to start making the dagger boards for the canopy extension.
there could be a possibility of the extension being erected after the Winter running in January , so everything will have to be ready for fitting in the few weeks we are closed down.
Dave , Brian and Ian started by cutting the tongue and groove boards to the correct length.
Dave applied the pointy bits and then the required hole , Brian then cut the slot.
8 done , but then nobody could remember the exact amount we had to do!
Then he did a bit cob web removing with his extended feather duster.
Wednesday
Clive and Ian painted more panels , whilst Peter K returned to his Portakabin to construct more Panels.
Young David was down the drive picking up yet more cones and debris .
Tony was on the mower keeping the grass tidy .
Pat was back with the strimmer on Platform 2
Dave was on his own but managed to cut another 35 dagger boards , just needs the hole and slot cut.
The Broadway away team of Rod , Keith and Ian were down at Toddington recovering paving slabs, from the old Garden Centre.
82 slabs that will be used on the platform 2 we recovered and there will more to come next week.
There was sad news today that Steve Bucknall had passed away . Steve had been a volunteer on Permanent way before joining the Broadway Group in its early years, later he was a familiar face helping in the Broadway Shop, below Steve on the dumper.
RIP Steve
So sad to hear about Steve. Where will the new spear fence panels go?
ReplyDeleteThey will be put into storage ready for the future

Paul & Marion
It was a pleasure to work with Steve. He was one of the stalwarts who helped get the station off the ground.
ReplyDeleteSorry to read that you have lost another stalwart volunteer. He will be remembered in the monolith that is Broadway station.
ReplyDeletewell done on the dagger board construction. Looking great., as is the never ending construction of spear top fencing.
Regards, Paul.
Steve was a top bloke, and was a great encouragement to me personally in my time volunteering at Broadway.
ReplyDeleteVery sorry to read that our good friend Steve has moved on to higher places.
ReplyDeleteHe and I spent many a day on the on the banks to the north of the station clearing the 50 years or so of undergrowth. What good bonfires did we have!
That was just one of the many tasks we did together and always very pleasant to work with him.
A good supporter for Broadway; he will be sadly missed.
