What No Rain !

 Week Commencing 17th April 2023

Monday

The usual suspects were around on a dry Spring day for a change.

Good enough for working outside again.

First Pat was able to mow the top of the drive embankment.

Peter , guess what was making more of the ever selling Trugs .

Over on Platform 2 , Ian was finishing off the top side of container 3

Just before I had to leave early a strange vehicle appeared on the horizon , the little machine that's sprays out  the weed killer !

Wednesday

Just the 4 of us , and another nice day

On Monday Ian had not only finished the end but also painted the door of no 1 , just the bottoms to do now.

Pat was over on the drive picking out stones and pebble from the area where the slab had been removed and replaced with soil.

A proud Pat with his collection of debris,

With the success of  making rubber feet for our bins at Broadway and as we had also made similar bins for Toddington. It was decided to do the same for their bins. So a quick jump on the next train for Dave and Ian. 8 bins had new feet put on them and then jump back on the next train back to Broadway.

Back at Broadway.

After Dave and Ian had put some new swing hinges on the barriers it was Peter K turn to try and fix the barriers so they wouldn't keep blowing over in the strong winds we get down the platforms here at Broadway.

Our Broadway Goods shed pair of Julie and John were doing a brisk trade all day .

The seating area where the new shop will go,  always seams to be full with passengers, where will they sit when the new shop arrives ?

Pat sent me a picture of his Flymo having a rest ! It had had a hard morning !

One of the Locos today at Broadway was the Standard 4 " Braveheart " here arriving with the first train of the day .

  1. Reference: e.mail from M.E.Bennett dated 14th February 2023. The overall intention, as far as we know, was not discussed with Senior members and volunteers of the Friends of Broadway Station
To say the least it is very disappointing and we would like to make some points.
Broadway shop does not just sell second hand items. We have new items donated by customers and volunteers past and present. We have two of our volunteers who make our very popular Trugs.
The Picnic area is VERY popular with passengers and locals alike. To lose
any of the tables would be foolish.
Today we had a Mr. Anthony Higginson donating his late brother Roger's lifetime collection mostly mint condition. Many thanks to you and others supporting us today.
The amount of money spent in the current shop which benefits Broadway Station is all PROFIT.
I would like to thank all our Volunteers for their hard work and support at friends of Broadway station Shop.
Perhaps Mr. Bennett would like to visit us I am always there on a Wednesday and sometimes Saturday or Sunday, or a phone call i am only 5 minutes away.

    1. I would have thought it would be a good idea that before launching a new shop you had a discussion with the existing one.
      Subjects could be:
      - What is the customer behaviour? Do they come between trains, or only when one arrives? Is it busy between trains?
-What sort of turnover do you achieve?
What sort of impact on your sales (which are almost all profit) would you expect from another shop right next to you?
-Is there likely to be a net benefit to the railway, after deducting additional costs?
-How long would it take to amortise the cost of an additional modern shed structure on the platform from the proposed shop's net profits, if any?

  2. Money for new shop Broadway.
I can't help thinking it wound be more beneficial going to the viaduct fund. If we are made to close the viaduct, Broadway station will also close. Hence no sales at all full stop!
